REBUILDING: A DIVORCE AND GRIEF RECOVERY GROUP
Rebuilding is a peer program designed to assist in grief recovery and personal growth for the divorced, widowed, and separated of this community. We are interdenominational and welcome all those seeking a safe confidential setting to share feelings of loss of a relationship.
While Rebuilding is NOT a social group, it is a place where many life long friendships have been developed.
Please note that our program is not a quick fix. It takes nearly a year to complete. Our experience has shown and other research confirms that it takes 3 to 5 years to work through the painful process of losing a spouse by divorce or death.
Rebuilding is a Levels program providing 4 levels each 10 week session.
Following is a brief description of these Levels.
This is our Grief Level. All participants begin here. We assist these participants through the Stages of Grief with personal talks by the leaders and with small group dialogue.
This is our Personal Growth Level designed to help participants distinguish the difference between healthy and unhealthy relationships. It also encourages participants to view the loss of a relationship as an opportunity for personal growth.
We use Bruce Fisher’s book, “Rebuilding When Your Relationship Ends” chapters 1-10.
Continues with chapters 11-20 of “Rebuilding”.
This Level is also a Personal Growth Level examining the individual and their lifetime relationship developments. The programs used in this Level are John Powell’s “Happiness is an Inside Job” and “Fully Human, Fully Alive”, alternating these two programs each 10 week session.
Our participants come to us through recommendations from churches, professional counselors and from those who have attended our program. Participants are all ages and from all walks of life.
Leaders in this program are not professional counselors. They are all widowed, divorced or separated who have completed this program and are returning the help that was once given them through their own journey of grief.
Meetings are held in the Family Life Center at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church, each Tuesday evening 6-8:30 pm. The cost is $25 per 10 week session. We provide financial assistance to all who express a need. No pre-registration is required.
